Terroir and wine-making
On a medium soil that comes from sub-Apennine calcareous sand, grows the Nero d'Avola grape that gives life to the Siccagno di Arianna Occhipinti. The vineyards are cultivated in the municipality of Vittoria, famous for the quality of wines produced, at 280 meters above sea level.
Arianna Occhipinti firmly applies the principles of organic farming and does not implement any chemical intervention on plants and fruits. The vines are bred in Guyot and tree; the harvest usually takes place in the first decade of October. The fermentation of the grapes is spontaneous and involves the presence of indigenous yeasts. It takes 22 months of aging in Slavonian oak barrels and 2 months in the bottle, without any filtration, to obtain this lovely Nero d'Avola, produced in total respect for nature and its balance.
Notes of taste
Arianna Occhipinti’s Siccagno has a dark ruby red colour and an excellent bouquet that reveals hints of plum, blackberry, currant, tobacco, licorice and myrtle. It wraps the palate with warmth and elegance, to close in a slightly acidic finish that is never aggressive. A balanced and velvety wine, which makes you love at the first sip.
Wine at the table
Siccagno loves to sit at the table with tasty dishes. With its elegance it can enhance all elaborate dishes of Mediterranean cuisine. It should be served at a temperature of 16/18°C.
Curiosity
Arianna Occhipinti named her Nero d'Avola Siccagno because of the type of grape used in its production, a concentrated grape called Siccagna.
