Terroir and wine-making

Syrah from Funaro is an organic wine made with only Syrah grapes that grow on the estate of Salemi, at an altitude of about 140 meters above sea level. The soil has a silty-clay structure and is rich in organic substances that contribute to give wine its qualities. During the harvest, usually between late August and early September, the winemakers of the winery hand-pick the grapes during the cooler hours. After the careful selection of the berries, maceration on the skins lasts about 10 days. The wine is made in steel tanks at a constant temperature of 20°C; followed by natural malolactic fermentation and aging first in steel then in bottle.

Notes of taste

In the glass, Syrah Funaro shows an inviting deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The perfume is very fruity and leaves hints of red fruit, black pepper and liquorice. It is a well-balanced red wine with harmonious tannins and a very pleasant roundness on the palate.

Wine at the table

The Syrah of Funaro can be accompanied by cold cuts and cheeses or a good fish soup. To try also the combination with the typical Sicilian cous cous.

Curiosity

Funaro is an eco-friendly farm that cultivates 85 hectares of land, divided between vineyards and olive groves, exclusively with organic systems and integrating traditional and modern methods.
