Terroir and wine making

The decision of the winemakers of Poggio di Bortolone to plant the Petit Verdot in Sicily has produced a remarkable result. The vineyard was immediately able to give life to a wine, the Petit Verdò Terre Siciliane IGT, very interesting. The vines grow on a medium-textured soil tending to the sandy, where they are raised with a spurred cordon system. The destemming and crushing of the grapes is followed by a period of 15 days of fermentation with maceration at a controlled temperature of 22-24 ºC. After malolactic fermentation the wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel barrels.

Taste notes

In the glass, Petit Verdò shows its deep ruby red color and the nose reveals herbaceous notes that, with aging, are flanked by those of tobacco, coffee and leather. On the palate releases a very powerful tannin.

Wine at the table

The Petit Verdò Poggio di Bortolone goes well with soft cheeses and is excellent combined with baked pork shank. The ideal serving temperature is 18-20 ºC.

Curiosity

The first bottle of Petit Verdò was produced in 1996 following a university trial conducted by Poggio di Bortolone winery in its own vineyards.
