Terroir and wine-making

After 10 years of work, the winemakers of the Firriato winery have managed to recover the Perricone grape variety, once widespread in Sicily and now endangered. In the Pianoro Cuddìa estate, the traditional Sicilian grape variety has known new life: the dry and ventilated terroir enhances its peculiarities, especially the aromatic complexity of its grapes. The latter are harvested by hand between the end of September and the beginning of October, after which the classic red wine is vinified in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. Finally, the Ribeca di Firriato ages from 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels.

Notes of taste

Ribeca Firriato is a deep ruby red wine. The nose offers a delicate bouquet of blackberry, plum and marasca with notes of liquorice, ginger, juniper berries and cloves. It releases its fresh tannins, which are elegantly and sinuously on the palate. Its acidity is contained and pleasant.

Wine at the table

First courses with meat sauce, red meat seconds and aged cheeses are the favorite dishes of Perricone Ribeca di Firriato.

Curiosity

La Ribeca is an ancient musical instrument, ancestor of the violin. The Firriato winery records this instrument on the label of its Perricone, to remember an ancient and almost forgotten tradition although rich in history and charm, just like the vine from whose grapes is born today this splendid wine.
