Terroir and wine-making

The Perricone Sorìa wine of Firriato is born in the terroir of the agro trapanese where the estate of Baglio Sorìa rises from which it takes its name. The winery has decided to experiment with the cultivation of the autochthonous Sicilian vine in particular pedoclimatic conditions: the hilly area near the coast has a high concentration of clay and red marl in the soil, which are responsible for the original organoleptic qualities of the grapes. The process of experimentation on Perricone grapes started by Firriato has played an important role in enhancing a variety worthy of consideration. Once harvested, the grapes are macerated in contact with the skins in stainless steel tanks; the aging continues in French oak barrels for 9 months during which the wine reaches its characteristic organoleptic thickness.

Notes of taste

The Sorìa Perricone has an intense ruby red color with violet hues and a complex bouquet of scents rich in hints of blackberry, plums and red fruit. On the palate it releases strong tannins with a pleasant softness, for a fresh and good persistence.

Wine at the table

The Perricone Sicilia DOC Sorìa of Firriato is an excellent companion for all dishes based on red meat. The combination with the first dishes filled, also based on fish.

As a testament to the successful work of experimentation on the vine, Firriato’s Sorìa Perricone has received several awards in recent years: '90 points' Wine Enthusiast and '4 stars' good wines from Italy.
