Terroir and wine-making
The estate of Gelso Grande is located in the agro of Trapani and hosts the vineyards of Merlot on its soil of medium dough almost clay. Vines grown on a Guyot trellis are exposed to the north at 300 metres above sea level. It is in this contest that the Merlot Feudi Branciforti dei Bordonaro forms its character of Sicilian red, thanks to a particularly favorable terroir and a vinification conducted with care and method. The traditional maceration of the berries takes place in a thermo-controlled stainless steel fermentino before proceeding with the lactic malo fermentation. The aging in medium-sized oak barrels and then in bottle enhances and refines the qualities it shows to the senses.
Notes of taste
A ruby red Merlot with garnet reflections that intrigues the palate by unfolding an elegant texture of delicate tannins and a particular softness of scents. The obvious notes of berries, tobacco and cocoa are especially seductive, accompanied by those of ripe plum and licorice that brighten up in the finish.
Wine at the table
At the table, Merlot Branciforti prefers to be served in a medium-sized glass, just tumbled, preferably in the company of first courses with meat ragout, second courses of white meat and cheeses of medium ripening.

The Merlot grapes used in the production of this wine grow on the estate of Gelso Grande, heart of the production of wines labeled Branciforti dei Bordonaro: an exceptional Sicilian terroir that is outlined in the natural space between Mount Erice and the Egadi islands, transferring to the grapes a wealth of scents of absolute value.
